Rev. Dr. Ernest Howard B. Dagohoy will start his term as the CPU President on November 1, 2023.
SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The Antique provincial board passed a resolution unanimously conveying profound congratulations and commendation to Central Philippine University’s (CPU’s) newly confirmed president who hails from their home province.
Senior Board Member Mayella Mae Plameras-Ladislao, who is the main sponsor of the resolution with Vice Governor Edgar Denosta as co-sponsor, said during their Monday (Oct. 9, 2023) regular session that Dagohoy is the first president of CPU, an institution founded by American Baptist missionaries in Oct. 1, 1905, to hail from Antique.
“Whereas, Rev. Dr. Dagohoy is the son of Mr. Abelito H. Dagohoy and Bugal kang Antique (Pride of Antique) for Education 2019 awardee Mrs. Febe Buenaventura Dagohoy of San Jose de Buenavista,”she said.
He is married to Dr. Cecile Gonzales Dagohoy and has an only daughter Faith Alexine Dagohoy-Bentulan.
Dagohoy, who graduated as valedictorian from San Jose Pilot Elementary School (now Delegate Angel Salazar Junior Memorial School and second honorable mention from CPU where he also graduated his bachelor’s degree in Theology in 1988, is a pastor, educator and administrator.
He also earned his Master of Divinity at the Asian Theological Seminary in Quezon City in 1991.
He further finished his Doctor of Ministry at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky in the United States of America (USA) in 2004.
“Whereas Rev. Dr. Dagohoy has received myriad of honors and recognition for his exceptional contributions to society,” Ladislao said in the resolution.
Dagohoy, before his confirmation as CPU president, also served as the first and only Filipino Pastor for the Baptist General Convention of Texas, USA fostering trusted advisor relationships with hundreds of Anglo, African, American, and Hispanic churches.
“Whereas the Board of Trustees and Corporation of CPU announced the election and confirmation of Rev. Dr. Dagohoy as the 18th president of the university who will serve a five-year term from Nov. 1, 2023 to Oct. 31, 2028,” Ladislao said.
Ladislao further said in the resolution, “Whereas, in view thereof, the Provincial Government of Antique imparts its warmest congratulations to Rev. Dr. Dagohoy for his stark and inspiring accomplishments present a picturesque example of a noteworthy leadership, persistently giving prestigious honor and pride to generations of Antiquenos, and totally deserve outstanding recognition and commendation.”
