“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV)
During the 96th Graduation of the University Colleges held at the University Gymnasium on June 23, 2024.
Dear Centralian family,
As part of our effort to stay at the forefront of higher education, we attended the 62nd National Convention of the Association of Christian Schools, Colleges and Universities (ACSCU) held at the Adventist University of the Philippines in Silang, Cavite. Anchored with the theme, “INNOVATING CHRISTIAN EDUCATION: Navigating Challenges, Embracing Opportunities,” the 3-day convention was hosted by ACSCU National Capital Region and South Luzon schools. We are encouraged to explore innovative approaches, methods, and technologies to enhance teaching, learning, and student engagement within the context of Christian education.
It brings me great joy and pride that CPU has once again solidified its rankings in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings as it secured seven Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. This year, THE Impact Rankings evaluated 2,152 universities from 125 countries, and CPU was ranked in seven areas namely, SDG 1 (No poverty): 801 – 1000, SDG 2 (Zero hunger): 601 – 800, SDG 3 (Good health and well-being): 801-1000, SDG 4 (Quality education): 1501+, SDG 11 (Sustainable cities and communities): 601- 800, SDG 16 (Peace, justice, and strong institutions): 801 -1000, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the goals): 1501+. This achievement is not an end in itself but rather a milestone on our continuous journey of growth and improvement. As we celebrate this success, let us also reaffirm our commitment to excellence in all aspects of our work.
On June 12-16, the Western Visayas Private Schools Athletic Association (WVPRISAA) Meet 2024 was held in San Jose, Antique, where over 1,300 coaches and student-athletes from 45 private schools participated. It’s worth noting that many of the WVPRISAA athletes, including coaches and trainers, came from Central Philippine University. Centralian athletes have showcased their exceptional talent, determination, and sportsmanship, securing numerous victories across the following categories: Softball Tertiary Women – Champion, Sepak Takraw Tertiary Men – Champion, Badminton Tertiary Men – Champion, Tennis Tertiary Men – Champion, Table Tennis Tertiary Men & Women – Champion, Table Tennis Secondary Boys & Girls – Champion, Taekwondo Secondary Boys & Girls – Champion, Basketball 3×3 Secondary Girls – Champion, Taekwondo Tertiary Men – Champion, Tennis Secondary Boys & Girls – Champion, Chess Tertiary & Secondary – Champion, Volleyball Tertiary Men & Women – Champion, Swimming Secondary Girls – Champion, and Basketball Tertiary Men – Champion. I congratulate all our Centralian athletes and coaches. Your achievements have brought immense honor to your Alma Mater.
In a historic moment for CPU, our Football Elementary Boys has clinched the coveted Community League in Cambodia (under 10 and under 12 category) held at the Siem Reap, Cambodia. During their international trip, they did not only participate in soccer tournaments but also undertook several outreach work. Together with their head coach, Rizel James “Bongbong” Rafols, the team’s experiences serve as a testament to the power of sports to transcend boundaries. At their young age, they inspired their fellow Centralian athletes to dream big, to believe in themselves, and to never give up on their goals.
I am delighted to share the news that the CPU Tumandok Dance Company’s “Saludo” concert has been applauded at Hashimoto City, Wakayama Prefecture, Osaka, Japan. They have also visited two schools in Japan for cultural presentations, dance performances, and workshops. Additionally, they got featured in the NHK, a Japanese broadcasting company. Their performances brought recognition to our institution. Our goal is to continue nurturing creativity, promoting cultural exchange, and achieving even greater heights in the future through international linkages.
Praise God for the success of our 96th Commencement Exercises of the University’s Colleges held at the University Gymnasium last June 23. That special event served as a time of joy and celebration, marking the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance of our students. It was a momentous occasion not only for our graduates but for their families, friends, and the entire Centralian community.
Let us continue to build bridges, not walls, and work hand in hand to create a better Central.
Dr. Ernest Howard B. Dagohoy
CPU President
