Dear Centralian family,

Greetings!

As guardians of culture and tradition, we hold a profound responsibility to preserve and celebrate our invaluable treasure trove of historical collections. The Hinilawod Epic Chant Recordings, housed in the Henry Luce III Library of Central Philippine University, have been officially inscribed to the UNESCO Memory of the World Committee for Asia and the Pacific (MOWCAP) Regional Register during the 10th MOWCAP General Meeting in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on May 8. We commit to promote these historical collections, even as we also embrace our role in shaping the collective Centralian identity and inspiring future generations. UNESCO’s recognition of the Hinilawod Epic Chant Recordings shows that it’s about time to dream of a CPU historical museum.

The pursuit of understanding our collective identity as an institution continues. There is a unique avenue through which we can delve into the annals of history and experience its richness in a profoundly emotive manner—through music. The Hopevale Musicale tells our story, in which lie “the echoes of triumphs and tribulations, revolutions and revelations.” Woven intricately into the fabric of our collective past, it rekindles our affinity for and deep appreciation of the American Baptist missionary movement. I am excited to inform you that this musicale will be re-staged here at CPU towards the end of the year.

On May 29, the 3rd Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Quality Awards was held at the Urdaneta Hall of the University of San Agustin. CPU received 5 awards namely: Model Implementer Award for Registrar’s Records, Award for Excellence in NSTP, Award for Excellence in Internationalization Initiatives, Certificate of Recognition for the institution’s support to CHEDRO VI, and a plaque of recognition for being the 8th Top Performing School in the May 2024 Chemical Engineers Licensure Examination (CheLE) with a rating of 80.0%. Being recognized by CHEDRO VI in these five areas reaffirms our commitment to excellence and underscores the hard work and dedication of the entire Centralian community. We will not rest on our laurels so that other areas we have missed will be recognized in the next Regional Quality Awards.

It is with great delight that I share with you the remarkable achievements of one of our esteemed alumni. Dr. Manny Palada has been appointed by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) as Country Director of the Farmer-to-Farmer (F2F) Program/Agricultural Leaders of Tomorrow Program. As a community, we celebrate Dr. Palada’s success. His experience when he was a student at CPU is a testament to the transformative impact of our wholistic approach to education, where we value the intersection of Scientia et Fides.

In our journey towards Exemplary Christian Education for Life (EXCEL), I am reminded of the fundamental importance of fostering a culture of inclusivity within our institution. Our faith tradition will spur us to cultivate a community where all individuals feel a sense of belonging. There will be clear-cut policies that will foster a culture of respect, empathy, and understanding and where every Centralian feels valued and empowered to reach his or her full potential.

On behalf of the entire University community, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to you, the graduating class of 2024. Your achievements stand as a testament to your unwavering commitment to excellence and your indomitable spirit in the face of challenges. Today, we celebrate not only your academic milestones but also the personal growth, resilience, and determination that have shaped your journey. You are now well-equipped to navigate the complexities of the world and to make a positive impact in your chosen fields of endeavor. Congratulations once again. We are proud of you!

Together, let us cultivate an environment where every voice is heard, every idea is valued, and every dream is nurtured.
