Central Philippine University

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV)

During the National Higher Education Day Summit 2024 together with various heads of state universities and colleges.

Dear Centralian family,

Greetings!

As a university dedicated to service and excellence, we take great pride in the accomplishments of our esteemed alumni, who are making a positive impact on society. We have started a segment entitled “Centralians in Public Service” under the CPUTV Channel to acknowledge the countless ways in which our alumni are shaping a better world through their tireless efforts and unwavering dedication in their respective fields. We have already featured Hon. Milliard Sonza Villanueva, Mayor of Concepcion, Iloilo; Hon. Atty. Stephen A. Palmares, Passi City Mayor; and Hon. Matt P. Palabrica, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member, 3rd District of the Province of Iloilo. We are looking forward to featuring not only Centralians excelling in public service but also in different fields.

On May 13, 2024, we participated in the CHED Quality Assurance Conclave for Higher Education Leaders held at the Grand Plaza Ballroom, Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila. The Commission on Higher Education hosted the event in partnership with USAID and RTI International. Various plenary sessions, including a panel discussion, were organized with themes such as Global Perspectives on Quality Tertiary Higher Education, Reinventing Higher Education and Emerging Global Trends, and Government-Academe Industry Upskilling: Partnership for Sustainability in Higher Education. One key takeaway from the event was the urgent call for higher education institutions in the country to become more globally competitive. In order to accomplish this, CHED is working with US universities, Philippine government agencies and private sector partners to strengthen higher education through faculty and staff training, improvements in the curriculum and conduct of more community outreach and technology transfer.

This upcoming May 29, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) will be holding its 3rd CHED Regional Quality Awards. In this regard, we have submitted our updated data in terms of Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings/University World Rankings, Research, Community Extension and Linkages, Internationalization Initiatives, IP Education Implementation, and Peace Education Implementation. Our participation in such an event will not only showcase CPU’s accomplishments related to the above-mentioned areas but also inspire us to consistently set the bar high in the years to come.

As we approach the culmination of another academic year, I am delighted to extend my warmest congratulations to CPU’s graduating students, Batch 2024. This academic milestone deserves to be celebrated with the warmth, joy, and sense of community that define our university. The various activities include dedication services, commencement exercises, baccalaureate services, and the awarding of honors and awards. I encourage the graduates to take these words to heart, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV).

May we always remember that at the heart of our university lies a profound sense of community—a community built on Scientia et Fides.
