Dear Centralian family,

Greetings!

In the recently concluded 2024 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet (WVRAA), Iloilo has been hailed as the overall champion for the following categories: elementary level, secondary level, paragames, and demo sport. It’s worth noting that many of the ILOPRISAA athletes, including coaches and trainers, came from Central Philippine University. We will continue to support our sports program both to give all stakeholders the chance to rally around the efforts of our outstanding student athletes, and equally important, to promote our University.

On May 1, we participated in the Centralian Fest: College of Engineering Football Game Part 2 held at the University Big Field. Students and alumni from the College of Engineering alike played hard to win, but what mattered most in the end was the warm fellowship everyone enjoyed and the connections made across generations. On May 3, KAYA FC, a Filipino professional football club based in Manila, visited CPU. We warmly welcomed them together with our Centralian soccer players, even as we also highlighted the University’s re-energized grassroots soccer program.

Part of fostering our shared initiatives was the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) together with the Northern Iloilo State University (NISU) on May 7. The joint venture named Project DAGAT aims to address inequalities in small island communities by providing them access to clean water, clean energy, and enhanced disaster risk reduction management through the harnessing of technological innovations.

Central Philippine University joins the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in celebrating its 30th founding anniversary. On May 10, we took part in the Opening Salvo and Parade organized by CHEDRO VI under the leadership of Regional Director Dr. Raul C. Alvarez, Jr. The partnership we share with CHED has thrived through the years and has brought about numerous positive outcomes that benefited not just our stakeholders but also the communities we serve.

Merkado Lokal has come to CPU in celebration of Farmers’ and Fisherfolks’ Month. We have taken significant strides in terms of local collaborations and we support Merkado Lokal because we believe in sustainable development, especially for all those who contribute to the advancement of food production in the country .

I would like to congratulate our Centralians who excelled in The Outstanding Students of Iloilo Awards (TOSIA) 2024. This year’s recipients are Robby Marvyn R. Arnillo (from the Junior High School Department), Anthony B. Lorca, Jennifer Erika P. Angeles, and Gazelle Faith G. Boko (from the College of Arts and Sciences). Once again, Central Philippine University has produced students whose academic excellence, leadership, community involvement, and faith in God go beyond the borders of this institution. We are so proud of you and your mentors as well!

May we never cease striving for the actualization of Scientia et Fides in the various areas of our campus community – for the benefit of Central and above all, God’s glory!
