The CPU Golden Lion Chess Team with Mr. Edwin C. Laru-an, Officer-in-Charge of the University Sports Office and their coach Mr. Ronel Ballesteros.

Golden Lion chess player, Fiona Geeweneth Guirhem, a CPU Junior High School student, ranked first in the Gold Medal Individual and Team category during the 19th ASEAN+ Age-Group Chess Championships held at the Royal Mandaya Hotel in Davao City on June 18-28, 2018.

Guirhem, who hail from Lemery, Iloilo bagged two gold medals in the girls individual and team competition under 18 category.

Cyril Felrod Telesforo got a bronze medal in the individual category under 16 and a silver medal in the team open under 16 event. On the other hand Checy Aliena Telesforo bagged a silver medal in the under 14 girls category – both hail from San Joaquin, Iloilo.

The CPU Golden Lion Chess Team is led by its coach, Mr. Ronel Ballesteros.

300 players from across the globe participated in the said event. The event was participated by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.
